The 1950s were a prolific era for Ingmar Bergman, and the decade saw him solidify his style and themes. He burst onto the international scene in ’56, when Smiles of a Summer Night wowed the Cannes Film Festival. One year later, the world knew Bergman was a force to reckon with, as 1957 saw the release of The Seventh Seal, an icon of existential cinema, and Wild Strawberries, a film of unapologetic self-discovery and optimism. The Trylon presents five of the movies that put Bergman on the map, including the underrated The Magician, and Monika, wherein Jean-Luc Godard supposedly found solace.
